Outreach/Justice: Change the World Saturday May 16th, 2015
May 16th Sunnyside UMC 8am - 2pm.
Change the World Day is an event that focuses on the work of our communities during one particular weekend so that change is palpable and noticeable. Just imagine, if every neighbor were outside the walls of their buildings, helping one another and enacting social change. People would take notice.

Trybal Revival Garden and Common Ground Resource Shed. Support the Common Ground network which provides tools, education and resources for area community and school gardens. Volunteers will help do a street clean up on the corner of E Michigan and Phelps, where the winter and trash has taken it's toll. 1519 E. Michigan Ave. Kalamazoo. Sign up to serve at TRG here
Free Store of Kalamazoo. The Free Store is a place where community residents are invited to share their excess, find items to fill their basic needs and build relationship in the midst of it all. Volunteers will help us prepare the outdoor store for shopping and then staff the store when it opens for donation drop-offs at 9:00 and for shopping at 10:00. There are a variety of tasks, including greeting guests as they come to the store, accepting donations, working at the registration or check-out desks, sorting clothing and re-stocking the store, and acting as "personal shoppers." Growing Community Garden. Help plant the Growing Community Garden, where we seek to grow community while growing food. Food from this garden supports the Eastside Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry (housed at the same location as the garden) and is distributed to community residents through the Free Store of Kalamazoo while volunteers and neighbors are also welcome to glean from our harvest. 2800 Gull Rd Kalamazoo. Open Roads. Every organization needs help with events! They need some folk to help set up for our annual fundraiser! Please come ready to move around some tables and chairs, decorate, and set up for a the event. They could really use community support to make this fundraiser awesome! Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity is making a commitment to the Eastside of Kalamazoo. They build and provide housing, and change people's lives. They need support in groundskeeping for Change the World Day. Sign up for H4H here
Open Doors. An organization that seeks to house and support the homeless needs some yard beautification, raking, and winter pick-up. Sign up to serve at Open Doors here.

Ministry with Community is drop in center offering a variety of services for all people. Volunteers should be prepared to beautify the outdoor property of the center by doing some spring clean-up. 440 N Church St Kalamazoo. Sign up to serve at MwC here
Oakwood Neighborhood Association. Help the Oakwood Neighborhood Association take care of 2 beaches on Woods Lake - wear protective clothing - long pants, and long sleeve shirts to guard against potential poison ivy.
Peace House. Join the Peace House, an intentional community in the Catholic Worker Movement, in preparation for their summer programming in site cleanup, fix up and helping add a fence around the property. The Peace House works with neighborhood children and families to promote peace through building relationships, supporting their academic success, and providing new opportunities for learning and growth. 312 Phelps Ave Kalamazoo. YWCA. The YWCA serves the women of our area with crisis support, counseling, emergency shelter and advocacy. Support the work that protects and empowers women at-risk in our community through planting flowers and cleaning up outside the building, so that when victims and hurt women walk inside, the first thing they see is pretty flowers and not icky trash. Tabitha Urban Farm and Homestead. Come and nature-scape with Katie Pearson, the leader of Tabitha Urban Farm and Homestead. You’ll be helping create a playground for children, helping the community garden and community forest flourish by weeding and some landscaping, and be doing general prep for the garden.
