Two services, one service, lots of music, a little music, everything at that time in the life of Sunnyside, as far as worship goes, was in a season of change. But in that moment over coffee, we looked at each other and said, "Do you think we could do 'Behold the Lamb of God' for Ad- vent?!?" After all it's the crazy sounding ideas that are usually the best, right? Putting together the true tall tale of the coming of Christ would be a huge undertaking, but there are lots of talented folks that chose Sunny- side as their church home. Those folks were willing to risk a bit of time and energy to create something pretty special.
The first year we shared ‘Behold’ I think it was an accomplishment just to make it through the story. Now we are about to embark on sharing the story with folks for a third Advent season. I choose to be a part of this experience, because I can think of no better way to share this story than through music,
especially playing the music with friends. And this music, ‘Behold the Lamb of God,’ gives life to the story in a remarkably beautiful way. Many times Josh Keller and I share stories about practicing the music and then just weeping because the lyric in a song is so beautiful. My friend Miah plays the album on repeat while he’s at work, and he does this in August, not just in December.
So friends, as the ‘Christmas crazy’ amps up please take a moment to be lost in the story of ‘the true tall tale of the coming of Christ’ this season. My hope is that means you choose to bring lots of friends to ‘Behold the Lamb of God’ on December 14.
